Long-Forgotten Reservoir - Keppel Hill Reservoir

An abandoned and forgotten reservoir dating back to 1905 has been discovered!

This forgotten reservoir is nestled in the Mount Faber forest. It served as a source of water for the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company, which was the forerunner of today's Port of Singapore Authority.

The reservoir used to be a swimming pool according to pre-war and post-war maps. The place, known to some as the Keppel Hill Reservoir, made the news when two soldiers and a 17-year-old boy drowned there on separate occasions - in 1936 and 1948. Remnants of a diving board and a shower area still stands today.

Below are some of the photos taken at the site. Beware of falling branches! There's a stairs leading to the waters. It's a little overgrown with the roots of the trees so do watch your steps.

The filtration system consists of a pump leading into the waters. The pump is working so do not be alarm when it starts making noises. I got a shock while it started pumping and I was the only one there =x

The remnants of the shower area can be found at the right side of the reservoir. These stairs leads towards the area.

If you're interested in visiting the area, here are some directions towards Keppel Hill Reservoir. First, you need to get to Keppel Hill road first. Below is the small map and a link of the google map.

Travel along Keppel Hill road and you will reach Joaquim Garden & Landscape Pte Ltd. Walk a few more meters and you will reach the gates. Go past it, take the left route and venture into a clearing (see image below). Towards the right of the clearing, there's an altar. Do offer your prayers before entering (just being polite).

Caution, the road ahead needs a little bashing. Get your insect repellent ready if you're particular about insect bites. You will stumble upon a crossroad as you head forward. Both paths leads towards the reservoir. The left side takes you to the pump area and the right leads you straight to the shower area.

Wallah~ you've reached Keppel Hill Reservoir. I hope this guide is useful to you folks! You would be surprised that a number of people are visiting this forgotten reservoir (perhaps because of the media and newly discovered). I Met a nice couple on the way there, John and Sally who shared their travel experiences of Mount Bromo trip. Mount Bromo is next on my list! That's all folks =)
