The G Spot

Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 22:51      No comments

Saw numerous good reviews of Lady M so I decided to try it out. However, it was closed for cleaning when I got there.

Not my day! Met a couple of people there too. All of us were disappointed that Lady M was not open. I spent sometime googling the next cafe around that location. That brings me to Patisserie G at Millenia Walk.

After asking for a recommendation, I chose The G Spot; Dark chocolate mousse with chocolate meringue, sits on a chocolate hazelnut praline crunch. It's chocolate and as expected it's sweet!

Thank god they have free flow of 'sky juice' (plain water). So, I sat at a corner enjoying the cake and my book. That's how I spent one of my Sundays before the start of the next working week.

abc

Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 23:15      No comments

Finally got to try abc (Artisan Boulangerie Co). I was always fascinated by the variety of bread they sell and of course, its beautiful atmosphere.

I am not even aware that I started to like bread and sandwiches (because of a "lost star"). Anyways, I had the Roast Chic Baguette as it's appears so tempting - the generous portion of seasoned chicken meat hypnotized me under the warm lighting; chanting, "Have me! Eat me!" (random! haha).

And so, I did as told. I sank my teeth down and I got stuck. I didn't know Baguette was that hard. It cut my palate! So, I took my time, chew the bread. The chicken was amazing. It's strongly seasoned and tender. The vegetables add more texture to it.

Since I was quite hungry, I was recommended Raisins Vanilla Swirl (after rejecting the chocolate ones). This is quite good. It wasn't too sweet and the Swirl's fluffy. The raisins adds spikes of sweetness to it but not overly done.

So folks, give it a try once in a while. The price is quite steep for abc! Of course, you could always find cheaper alternatives like Delifrance and Sub Way.

Hoshino Coffee

Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 21:13      No comments

I've always wanted to try out soufflé and finally, I did. I have it at Hoshino Coffee in Plaza Singapura.

I spent a whole evening shooting Chirstmas lightings at Orchard Road and stopped at my final destination, Plaza Singapura. I roamed around the mall for a while before getting a little hungry and settled down in Hoshino Coffee.

After getting recommendations from the waitress, I ended the endless struggle between having tea or coffee (since it's late at night). I decided to try their hand-drip Coffee (and paid the price of having a sleepless night haha).

I ordered a vanilla soufflé with custard sauce to go with the coffee. The soufflé's amazing! It is served tall and when I dug in, it is super fluffy and warm. This dessert is not too sweet and very smooth; Just right to my liking!

Do try Hoshino Coffee out folks. However, I must first warn you that the price's steep. Almost $20 for the coffee and soufflé (Ouch!)

d' Good Café

Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 21:04      No comments

Cake hunting on a Saturday leads us to d' Good Café. This cafe is 3 floors high and has a relaxing atmosphere.

d' Good Café is located near the circle line exit of Holland Village. The entrances of the cafe looks misleading. It's just a narrow door with d' Good Café logo printed on it. The door swings open with a flight of stairs in front.

The counter is located on the 2nd floor. There's also a dining area at this level. On the 3rd floor, there is a balcony with great scenery of Holland Village. Note that it is not air conditioned. Next to it is a more causal dining area where you can enjoy the desserts as well as play board and card games.

I tried their Maple Salt Cheesecake and I'm so in love with it! I love the taste of mild cheese with the great taste of maple in it. There's a little touch of saltness which heightens the flavor. The only down side is that each slice cost $9! This is kinda ex.

The waffle on the other hand was not bad either. It's crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and served hot. The best part is the aroma of the waffle. There are 3 choices of syrup to go with the waffle - Chocolate, maple or strawberry.

Do try out the Maple sea salt cheesecake while you're in Holland Village folks.

Getaway in Penang - Moustache Houze

Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 23:00      No comments

What's better than relaxing at a cafe with a cup of coffee and delicious cakes?

Cafe hunting in Penang leads us to Moustache Houze. It's one of the popular cafes there in Penang. We combed through a number of streets before reaching Moustache Houze. We were welcome by the "moustache" outside the cafe.

Moustache Houze creates a reto and rustic atmosphere. The interior is lit warmly by yellow halogen lamps. The windows are tinted pale green and orange which creates contrast. A huge sign post bearing their shop logo together with some other vintage props are used to decorate the cafe.

There is a wide range of cakes and coffee. Here are some of the cakes we had. A green tea cake which tasted super rich, a chocolate cake and banana walnut cake? (couldn't recall). Anyways, the cakes are not too bad. Most importantly is the price! (much much cheaper than in Singapore)

I love the painting of the father carrying his son on their wall. The depth the painting brings out is amazing; the shadows, highlights and the father's hair. I did a black and white conversion and tweak the photo a little.

Do try out Moustache Houze while you're touring Penang folks! Good Night.

Bangkok Trip 2014 - Roast Coffee & Eatery

Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 21:56      No comments

Cafe hunting in Bangkok! I went to Roast Coffee & Eatery at Thong Lo Soi 13 . Food was Great!

Roast Coffee & Eatery is favourited by Singaporeans and westerners. I reached there around 1pm and it is filled. I was quickly ushered to my seat and given the menu. I ordered Magic (Three-quarter), Clam Chowder Soup and Classic Eggs Benedict.

Magic (Three-quarter) is a special kind of coffe. It is a 3 to 1 ratio of steamed milk and coffee. Less amount of milk enhances the strength of coffee and its flavour. It comes with a small cup of sugar and basic coffee art - nice heart shape.

The clams I must agree is super fresh, sweet and tasty! I kept choking on some chilli powder or spice which is added to the soup. It is not really my kind of soup. I was quite disappointed their Mushroom Soup was out of stock.

Last, the main dish. Eggs Benedict is one of my favourites. I fell in love with this! The poached eggs were cooked perfectly. When I sank my teeth down, the yolk oozes out spilling over the muffin and ham. The ham was sliced thin and muffin slightly toasted but not too hard. Everything does magic with the well-mixed Hollandaise sauce.

I would strongly recommend you folks to try out Roast Coffee & Eatery. It's not too expensive either. All these dishes for a total of 572 Baht (S$22). I was eyeing on their Roasted Whole Sea Bream!!! Someone try and let me know.

Ice Skating & W39

Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 16:23      No comments

Had a public holiday recently! We spent that day ice skating and dining at W39 Bistro & Bakery.

We decided to go for ice skating on our own despite failing to gather our friends due to the last minute idea. It's dear's first time ice skating and to be frank, she did quite a good job! (Although she's still waddling like a baby penguin on ice HAHA! ops..)

After skating for 2 hrs, we decided to dine at W39, somewhere out of the usual places that we had been =) W39 is located at the corner around the street. At first, we thought it might be closed on that day (since it's a public holiday).

We were wrong! In fact it is filled with people and we waited for 20mins before getting our seats. We had Miso Sea-bass, Sautéed Prawns and 2 cakes. Do note that the Sea-bass have to wait up to 20mins. However, it's worth the wait!

The Sea-bass is super tender, juicy and fresh. When I slice my knife across, it just cuts the meat through cleanly. This dish is really well cooked! The sauce has a slight touch of saltness and sweetness which adds in quite a flavour to it.

The prawns are succulent and well seasoned. It does not taste too salty and have a little spicy taste. Prawns are my favourites and I am pretty particular about it. They did not disappoint me =)

After the mains, we decide to have some cakes as the portion are a little too small for us. Furthermore, dear is craving for her weekly dosage of cakes! So we tried 2 of their cakes.

Stop #7

W39 Bistro & Bakery

We had a slice of Red Velvet & Salted Caramel Cake each. It's my first time tasting Salted Caramel Cake and I LOVE IT. The chocolate is subtle and I love the "oily / buttery" feel of the salted caramel. The cake is soft too! The Red Velvet Cake on the other hand tasted normal and it is well done too =)

Enjoy folks! Do try out W39 Bistro & Bakery! I would definitely go for the Sea-bass again!! The prices of the main tends towards the expensive side. However, the quality of the food is excellent =)

Pique Nique

Sunday, April 20, 2014 at 12:55      No comments

We went to Pique Nique some time back. We could not resist the good bread that Pique Nique serve and the ambience of the restaurant =)

Pique Nique @ Jcube is still one of my favourite brunch destinations. I love the whole setting of the place with warm lights. I am especially attached to decoration; chalkboard menu, vases and ingredients used.

This time around, we had Roasted Chicken Caesar Salad as our side (didn't know it's meant to be a main) and each having Croque Madame. We were shocked by the size of the salad and I had a super hard time clearing up the salad. It's too much! The portion of Croque Madame is big too.

The salad was good. I mashed the egg and mixed the runny yolk with the vegetables. The sauce was sweet sour and the vegetables are fresh. I love the crispy bread crumbs too; although they are a little hard and big.

I feel the cheese of Croque Madame Cajun was too taxing. It's too salty for my liking. However, the bread was good! I love the softness and aroma of the white bread =) The fries are fried to perfection; soft and crispy (main thing is, It's cut from potatoes and not machine made).

My favourite corner would be by the decorations. I would spend my time appreciating the details; The menu, font used, doodles. How are the oil bottles placed, plates stacked, the colours brought up by the packings and the lighting of the area.

Do try our Pique Nique folks. It might be a little pricey but the portion served is filling =)

PS Cafe

Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 14:38      No comments

Cake hunting again! After an early meal on a Saturday, we decided to go for dessert and this leads us to PS Cafe.

The outlet at Paragon seems confusing. The display cakes are placed outside and the cafe is inside "The Project Shop". We took a while to figure that we could dine inside the shop.

We had a slice of Double Chocolate Cake and some Golden Camomile Tea to go with it (Just because I got the mood for tea). We waited for quite a while before our cakes were served.

I was shocked when the cake was served. It's really HUGE. It seemed to be twice the size of a normal slice of cake. The portion was insanely too much! I even joked naming them "BS Cafe"; Big Size Cafe. HAHA!

Anyways, the cake tasted not too bad. It was normal; spongy and chocolaty. The fudge at the sides of the cake is super sweet. Therefore, do have it with some mouths of cake.

Lastly, Golden Camomile Tea does helps sleep. I've been having insomnia for quite sometime and I slept soundly that night. More cakes to come folks =)

Cake Spade

Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 14:46      No comments

Cakes! Dear has a special goal this time round. She wanted to try all the cakes in Singapore. So stay tune for more cake posts.

First stop of cake hunting, Cake Spade. This is recommended by dear. She found quite a number of good reviews on Cake Spade. Thus, here we are trying their cakes.

We ordered a Brownie Bottom Cheesecake and Peach Tofu Cheese Cake. To me, the Brownie Bottom Cheesecake seems nothing special. As usual, the taste of cheese which is not overpowering and quite smooth. Of course brownie at the bottom of the cake.

However, the Peach Tofu Cheese Cake blows me away. The top layer seems like peach jelly and is not overly sweet. The prime part would be the "Tofu Cheese". "Tofu" is a really a good word to use for this cake. It is indeed well blended and super smooth like "Tofu". I would definitely recommend this cake!

This place is right outside Tajong Pagar MRT Station. Take Exit A and walk towards Orchid Hotel. It is just behind Orchid Hotel. Do try it folks =)

Once Upon a Rösti

Cafe hunting again. We are trying to conquer all the brunch places, tasting all the cakes we found. We went back to Once Upon a Rösti =)

We sort of miss the taste of Rösti and we were near Tanjong Pagar. So we visited Once Upon a Rösti. The place is homely and fairy tale like (to me). Nice warm and sweet colours with slow acoustic music; great atmosphere for a meal and chit-chat session =)

I tried the Seafood Mermaid Platter which includes crayfish tail meat and smoked salmon cuts with a choice of single or double rösti and two types of sauces. I had double rösti and two servings of sour cream after consulting with the waitress on what's best for this dish.

This rösti tastes great without any sauce. I would still recommend rösti to go with sour cream and chili. The crayfish tail tasted ok but the smoke salmon cuts were too salty. I guess it's over seasoned. Do have it with a few mouth of rösti and it tastes prefect.

We went there during non-peak hours. So not sure about the crowd during peak hours. Once Upon a Rösti opens only on weekdays between 11am and 8pm. So do take note of the time if you decide to visit them folks =)

Pique Nique Branch

Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 20:27      No comments

We had branch at Pique Nique last Sunday before catching Star Trek Into Darkness. Food was great, Movie was nice! Happy!

We ordered Farmer's Omelette and Croque Madame. Food was great! My Farmers's Omelette consist of a slice of white bread and eggs (of course). In the omelette wrapped, diced sausages, bacons and potatoes.

To be honest, I was impressed with the disc. The white bread was soft on the inside and crispy at the edges. You could actually smelly the aroma of the slightly toasted bread. The omelette and the ingredients gave a unique texture and taste.

I had a bite of the Croque Madame. The cheese taste was rich and the bread was soft. The fries are fried perfectly. Crispy and not hard. I do encourage you folks to try Pique Nique out.

Branch at Canelé

Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 20:34      No comments

Had branch at Canelé last weekend. We planned to try out Kith, but its full and my dear can't wait so we headed down to Canelé @ Plaza Singapura.

We ordered French Eggs Benedict, The Classic Club (Sandwich) and Triple Chocolate Cheese Cake for dessert.

French Eggs Benedict

A duo of freshly-baked English muffins topped with ham, poached eggs & dressed with Hollandaise sauce. Served alongside tomato confit & garden salad.

The Classic Club

White toast with chicken slices, crisp bacon strips, fried egg, Cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, fresh tomatoes & lettuce.

Triple Chocolate Cheese Cake

White toast with chicken slices, crisp bacon strips, fried egg, Cheddar cheese, mayonnaise, fresh tomatoes & lettuce.

Food was not too bad. I love the Hollandaise sause and the poach eggs were cooked perfectly - oozing out the egg yolk when I took a bite. The taste of the muffins are unique. Although I did not really like the bitterness of the garden salad, it was prepared well.

As for the cake, I felt it was kind of sweet. (Chocolate are meant to be sweet shouldn't they?) I love the texture of eating the cake - The top layer of chocolate fudge with the cheese cake layer and lastly the crunchy walnuts layer.

Enjoy folks

MOTT Cafe

Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 19:11      No comments

Dear and I had branch at MOTT Cafe (The Mayor of Tiny Town). This small little shop is located opposite the Police Cantonment Complex at Outram Park.

The shop has its walls painted white and lit with warm yellow lights. The bright coloured cushions and paper decorations brings up the atmosphere of the shop.

The food here was average. I had MOTT Breakfast. The bacon was kind of hard and the seasoning for the spinach was overpowering.

Dear had Hammie's Omelette. The toast was too hard, the salad lacks taste and was too oily.

We shared a cup of refreshing Iced Nectarine Tea with a slight touch of peach.

It is not a bad place to have a gathering and laze away the afternoons of your weekend. Enjoy folks!

Strictly Pancakes

Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at 12:42      No comments

I treated my dearest to a meal at Strictly Pancakes. She was always craving and amazed by having branches.

When we arrived, we queued for quite sometime before getting our seats at the sofa in the upper deck. The place was small but cosy and the atmosphere was good.

We ordered a Chicken A La King and Potatoes Leeking Cheese and a cup of iced Mocha. Both of us had garlic with herb for our butter.

My Chicken A La King comes in 3 slices of pancake, 2 chicken fillets and 3 strips of Asparagus. I had my pancake generously spread with the butter and I poured small potions of maple syrup over it.

It tastes sweet and the pancakes feels a little soggy (because I poured a too much syrup over it) in my mouth. With the garlic and herb butter, it's superb! I'm not a cake person but this is quite good.

Potatoes Leeking Cheese comes in 2 thicker slices of pancake with cheese inside them and some salted, peppery mushrooms. The coffee was disappointing. The cup was full of ice which makes it bland.

The meal was really filing. We had both our stomaches bloated =x Try out Strictly Pancakes folks!
