The G Spot

Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 22:51      No comments

Saw numerous good reviews of Lady M so I decided to try it out. However, it was closed for cleaning when I got there.

Not my day! Met a couple of people there too. All of us were disappointed that Lady M was not open. I spent sometime googling the next cafe around that location. That brings me to Patisserie G at Millenia Walk.

After asking for a recommendation, I chose The G Spot; Dark chocolate mousse with chocolate meringue, sits on a chocolate hazelnut praline crunch. It's chocolate and as expected it's sweet!

Thank god they have free flow of 'sky juice' (plain water). So, I sat at a corner enjoying the cake and my book. That's how I spent one of my Sundays before the start of the next working week.

Chocolate Origin

Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 23:12      No comments

Finally, I have a taste of Chocolate Origin's dark chocolate cake. Only the brach at Kallang Wave Mall sells slices while others sell a whole cake.

I was kinda disappointed when I had this cake. It didn't surprise me that much. The cake tasted sweet and less of bitter. I couldn't really taste the richness of the dark chocolate. Maybe this isn't my kind of cake =|

On the other hand, I super like their lava cake. Look at this cup of goodness! Flowing warm chocolate with cold ice cream at the bottom *thumbs up*

Do try it out folks! The price might a a little steep. Each lava cake cost $5 and a slice of cake cost $8.50.

d' Good Café

Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 21:04      No comments

Cake hunting on a Saturday leads us to d' Good Café. This cafe is 3 floors high and has a relaxing atmosphere.

d' Good Café is located near the circle line exit of Holland Village. The entrances of the cafe looks misleading. It's just a narrow door with d' Good Café logo printed on it. The door swings open with a flight of stairs in front.

The counter is located on the 2nd floor. There's also a dining area at this level. On the 3rd floor, there is a balcony with great scenery of Holland Village. Note that it is not air conditioned. Next to it is a more causal dining area where you can enjoy the desserts as well as play board and card games.

I tried their Maple Salt Cheesecake and I'm so in love with it! I love the taste of mild cheese with the great taste of maple in it. There's a little touch of saltness which heightens the flavor. The only down side is that each slice cost $9! This is kinda ex.

The waffle on the other hand was not bad either. It's crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and served hot. The best part is the aroma of the waffle. There are 3 choices of syrup to go with the waffle - Chocolate, maple or strawberry.

Do try out the Maple sea salt cheesecake while you're in Holland Village folks.

Bangkok Trip 2014 - Cake Hunting in Bangkok

Friday, June 27, 2014 at 10:40      No comments

Let me stretch the "legacy" of my cake hunting across to the Bangkok region.

Stop #8

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

I was chilling at Coffee Bean after shopping at Naraya. I had a slice of White Chocolate Cheesecake and a small cup of milk base pure vanilla.

The cheesecake wasn't too strong and I like the biscuit as the base of the cake. The white chocolate is not too sweet either. Just the right supper before heading back to the hostel for the night.

Stop #9

Mr Jones' Orphanage

After a sumptuous meal at Roast Coffee & Eatery, I decided to try out Mr Jones' Orphanage since its just below Roast Coffee & Eatery. I ordered a slice of Strawberry Sponge Cake, a slice of Ferrero Chocolate Cake and a jug of Chamomile Tea.

Their cakes are quite normal and nothing surprising. The chocolate cake tasted a little sweet. The Sponge cake on the other hand isn't soft and rich enough!

However, the ambience here is good! Decorated with teddy bears, equipped with european-style utensils and lit warmly by halogen light builds up the mood. I was taken in by their beautiful cake display at the front of the shop.

The are quite a number of seats. Below is an image of one of the areas. There is a shoot going on and the teddy bears on top of the dining area doesn't seems to stop swinging even after the shoot.

There's a cosy corner at the upper deck of Mr Jones' Orphanage. The tables here are much shorter and there are sofas filled with teddy bears. Mr Jones' Orphanage is super Instagram friendly. You might want to stay at the lower deck if you're tall.

Ice Skating & W39

Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 16:23      No comments

Had a public holiday recently! We spent that day ice skating and dining at W39 Bistro & Bakery.

We decided to go for ice skating on our own despite failing to gather our friends due to the last minute idea. It's dear's first time ice skating and to be frank, she did quite a good job! (Although she's still waddling like a baby penguin on ice HAHA! ops..)

After skating for 2 hrs, we decided to dine at W39, somewhere out of the usual places that we had been =) W39 is located at the corner around the street. At first, we thought it might be closed on that day (since it's a public holiday).

We were wrong! In fact it is filled with people and we waited for 20mins before getting our seats. We had Miso Sea-bass, Sautéed Prawns and 2 cakes. Do note that the Sea-bass have to wait up to 20mins. However, it's worth the wait!

The Sea-bass is super tender, juicy and fresh. When I slice my knife across, it just cuts the meat through cleanly. This dish is really well cooked! The sauce has a slight touch of saltness and sweetness which adds in quite a flavour to it.

The prawns are succulent and well seasoned. It does not taste too salty and have a little spicy taste. Prawns are my favourites and I am pretty particular about it. They did not disappoint me =)

After the mains, we decide to have some cakes as the portion are a little too small for us. Furthermore, dear is craving for her weekly dosage of cakes! So we tried 2 of their cakes.

Stop #7

W39 Bistro & Bakery

We had a slice of Red Velvet & Salted Caramel Cake each. It's my first time tasting Salted Caramel Cake and I LOVE IT. The chocolate is subtle and I love the "oily / buttery" feel of the salted caramel. The cake is soft too! The Red Velvet Cake on the other hand tasted normal and it is well done too =)

Enjoy folks! Do try out W39 Bistro & Bakery! I would definitely go for the Sea-bass again!! The prices of the main tends towards the expensive side. However, the quality of the food is excellent =)

Finally, it's weekends and I got the time to blog! More cake hunting for you folks =D

Stop #4

Dong Po Colonial Cafe

We went to Dong Po Colonial Cafe a few weeks back. This cafe has a olden days chinese feel - Decorated with old marble tables and wooden stools. We had a slice of Chocolate Truffle Slice Cake & Apple Aloe Slice Cake.

I love the creamy feel of the cakes (especially Apple Aloe Slice Cake). The cakes are soft, lift and simple. The taste are not overpowering =)

Stop #5

PS Cafe

PS Cafe at Dempsey Hill!! The ambience there is good! Nice scenery and up on a hill. That also means that it's a little inaccessible if you only owns "transport 11" (your legs). Luckily, PS Cafe is not located too deep in =)

We ordered a slice of Key Lime Pie & Banana Butterscotch Cake. The pie was "super-duper" sour! However, the taste soften off after a mouth of it. 妙!

We fell in love for the Banana Butterscotch Cake!! It's served warmed with the butterscotch sauce all over the cake. The cake is soft with a slight touch of banana. The sauce is not too thick and compliments the cake.

Sorry for the less pleasant photos folks! I lost the photos that was meant to be publish!

Stop #6

PAUL

Paul produces nice pastries. We tried Tartelette Multifruits & Millefeuille Nature. The fruit tart is good! The crust has this nice buttery taste and the fruits are fresh and soft. The combination of fruits gives a mix of sweet and sour touch. *thumbs up*

Millefeuille Nature was awesome! It does taste sweet but not overly. I have no idea what's the filling but it's soft like mousse. I love the whole feel of this dessert =)

MADO

We were around the vicinity of Jurong East and dear was craving for cakes again. We went around and decided to settle for MADO. We browsed through the menu and went for Pistachio Baklava.

CAUTION! This dessert is SUPER sweet! It does have a Turkish taste to it (oh well~ it's a Turkish restaurant. Dirr..) However, the ice cream was yummy. It has a slight touch of sweet Vanilia and I LOVE Vanilia =)

PS Cafe

Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 14:38      No comments

Cake hunting again! After an early meal on a Saturday, we decided to go for dessert and this leads us to PS Cafe.

The outlet at Paragon seems confusing. The display cakes are placed outside and the cafe is inside "The Project Shop". We took a while to figure that we could dine inside the shop.

We had a slice of Double Chocolate Cake and some Golden Camomile Tea to go with it (Just because I got the mood for tea). We waited for quite a while before our cakes were served.

I was shocked when the cake was served. It's really HUGE. It seemed to be twice the size of a normal slice of cake. The portion was insanely too much! I even joked naming them "BS Cafe"; Big Size Cafe. HAHA!

Anyways, the cake tasted not too bad. It was normal; spongy and chocolaty. The fudge at the sides of the cake is super sweet. Therefore, do have it with some mouths of cake.

Lastly, Golden Camomile Tea does helps sleep. I've been having insomnia for quite sometime and I slept soundly that night. More cakes to come folks =)

Chocolate Origin

Friday, March 28, 2014 at 22:10      No comments

Cake hunting second stop; Chocolate Origin! Dark Chocolate Cake is the recommendation. Please note that some outlets only sell whole cakes.

We visited Chocolate Origin today! Dear is so excited about their Dark Chocolate Cake and dragging me to try it. We headed to the outlet at Bugis. The dining area was small with only eight seats. Furthermore, they only sell a whole cake and not slices of it.

Fortunately, the lava cake was available and we had one each. This, satisfies dear's chocolate and cake craving as well as her desperate "need" for ice cream. Yes! The lava cake has two layers. The top layer is the molten cake with warm chocolate settled in the middle of it. The bottom layer sits their vanilla ice cream.

Do expect this to be a little sweet. I'm not a person with sweet tooth and I do accept this. The ice cream was good - not too creamy, not too milky with a slight vanilla sweet. I love this combination! It's gives me surprise!

Starting, you find yourself with scoops of soft chocolate cake accompanied with warm smudgy chocolate. Slowly you transit to the ice cream portion where you feel the cold ice cream that "tame" the sweetness. Lastly, you find yourself scrapping off the last bit of ice cream.

Do try the lava cake out folks! Hope your enjoy it =)

Cake Spade

Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 14:46      No comments

Cakes! Dear has a special goal this time round. She wanted to try all the cakes in Singapore. So stay tune for more cake posts.

First stop of cake hunting, Cake Spade. This is recommended by dear. She found quite a number of good reviews on Cake Spade. Thus, here we are trying their cakes.

We ordered a Brownie Bottom Cheesecake and Peach Tofu Cheese Cake. To me, the Brownie Bottom Cheesecake seems nothing special. As usual, the taste of cheese which is not overpowering and quite smooth. Of course brownie at the bottom of the cake.

However, the Peach Tofu Cheese Cake blows me away. The top layer seems like peach jelly and is not overly sweet. The prime part would be the "Tofu Cheese". "Tofu" is a really a good word to use for this cake. It is indeed well blended and super smooth like "Tofu". I would definitely recommend this cake!

This place is right outside Tajong Pagar MRT Station. Take Exit A and walk towards Orchid Hotel. It is just behind Orchid Hotel. Do try it folks =)
